Roomba replacement parts: genuine or compatible?
Buy a compatible kit for filters and side brushes: it costs far less than iRobot’s own kit, and a tester who compared them found the differences small. If compatible rollers wear out fast or run loud, switch to iRobot’s own rubber brushes.
For an e, i or j series Roomba, the JoyBros kit was $21.99 on Amazon on November 2, 2026, iRobot’s own kit $66.99, and iRobot’s rubber brushes alone $39.99.

Replace a part early if it looks worn, says iRobot. The schedule is iRobot’s for normal use; iRobot says to clean the brushes and filter twice as often in homes with pets.
Genuine or compatible?
iRobot says to replace parts with its own genuine parts. iRobot: s series kit page It says non-genuine parts may cut corners on materials and quality control. iRobot: Roomba 205 kit page
A tester who swapped genuine and off-brand parts on a Roomba 900 found the differences small. ctrl.blog (Roomba 900 series test) The off-brand side brushes were a little stiffer, and the off-brand rollers sounded louder. ctrl.blog Owner complaints are mostly about rollers. One owner says cheap rollers wore out quickly; another says third-party rollers wore out, fit loosely and made the robot louder. owner 1 owner 2 Others say their non-iRobot parts always fit. So: filters and side brushes are where a compatible kit saves the most with the least risk. Rollers are where owners report problems. Start with a compatible kit, and buy iRobot’s rollers if the cheap ones wear out early.
Dock bags
If your Roomba empties itself into a dock, the dock takes a bag. A compatible pack costs a fraction as much per bag. Check that the pack names your dock or model before you buy.
| Bags | Per bag | Buy |
|---|---|---|
| VBN bags, 12-pack (Clean Base and 100-700 Combo docks) | $1.49 a bag | $17.93 at Amazon |
| iRobot dirt disposal bags, 12-pack (Clean Base docks) | $5.56 a bag | $66.75 at Amazon |
| iRobot dirt disposal bags, 3-pack (105, Plus 405/505, Max 705 docks) | $6.66 a bag | $19.99 at Amazon |
Does a compatible part void the warranty?
Not by itself. iRobot’s warranty does not cover filters, brushes or bags in the first place. iRobot warranty It does exclude damage caused by the use of spare parts, so a part that breaks your robot is on you.
Questions
Will the e, i and j kit fit my Combo j7+ or Combo 10 Max?
No. iRobot says its e, i and j kit does not fit the Combo j7+, Combo j9+ or Combo 10 Max. Use a kit made for those models.
How often should I change the filter?
Every 2 months on the i, j, s, 500 to 900 and Max 700 Roombas, and every 3 to 6 months on the Roomba 105 and 205, by iRobot's own charts.
Do I need a whole kit?
No. Filters and side brushes wear out first. A kit is the cheapest way to get both, and its spare rollers are there when you need them.
