How each pick was made
Every box we track was run against five households with our fit rules. A box “clears” a household only when its maker publishes how many cats it takes and which litter, and those fit, and at least one weight limit (the lightest or the heaviest cat) that fits. Some makers publish only one end of the weight range: the Cat weight column says “and up” or “up to” when that is all there is, and the other end is not checked. Within 10% of a limit is “at a limit”, and a cat count or litter the maker leaves out is not a pass.

Large cats and Maine Coons: weight and entry
A big cat needs two things from an automatic box: a weight rating above its weight, and an entry it can walk through without crouching. Weigh your cat on a bathroom scale (hold it, then subtract your own weight). Measure it from nose to the base of the tail, and its height at the shoulder.
The table sorts every box by the heaviest cat its maker rates it for. The entry column quotes each maker’s own words, because makers measure the entry differently: Whisker gives the opening’s width and height, others give the height of the step or of the opening. Compare the quoted figure with your cat, not the numbers with each other.
