Living with it
- Consumables
- The auto-packing waste bag system uses PETKIT's own refill rings, and one ring seals the bag roughly 10 times before it needs replacing. petkit.com
- Subscription
- Full video playback from the built-in camera is gated behind the paid PETKIT Care+ subscription, which is what unlocks the 30-day video history. petkit.com
- Maintenance
- PETKIT recommends packing/emptying waste more often than the default schedule if the household is hot and humid, rather than relying on the standard 20-day interval. petkit.com
- Warranty
- The Purobot Ultra's upgraded 2-year warranty only applies to units purchased on or after January 1, 2025; earlier purchases fall back to PETKIT's standard 1-year limited warranty, and the policy is US-purchases only. petkit.com
- Support and parts
- To file a warranty claim, an owner has to email PETKIT support with proof of purchase details (purchase channel, order number, serial number, invoice) rather than just returning the unit to a retailer. petkit.com
- Known issue
- PETKIT's own FAQ on the product page warns against litter granules longer than 12mm or wider than 3mm, which rules out many large clumping or crystal litters. petkit.com
- Safety
- PETKIT states the cleaning cylinder halts immediately if it senses a cat nearby, a behavior it markets as a '100% safety' guarantee. petkit.com
- Camera and data
- PETKIT's privacy policy discloses that its 'smart visualization devices' (i.e. camera products like the Purobot Ultra) collect screenshots, videos, and in-app voice communications as part of normal operation. petkit.com
What long-term reviewers report.
- Basic setup was fast and trouble-free, including connecting to wifi and the app. cats.com
- Watching full camera video playback requires paying for the separate PETKIT Care+ subscription, not just owning the box. cats.com
- The app's 'health check-up' feature just shows generic reference photos of stool types for comparison, not an analysis of the cat's actual waste. cats.com
- A customer review quoted in the piece found the unit quiet in operation with strong odor control. cats.com
- The automatic bag-refill mechanism can misfire mid-cycle, apparently mistaking a nearby full trash bag for a cat. cats.com
- A reader raised a safety question about whether the gap between the chute and the waste-bin opening is wide enough to trap a cat's paw. cats.com
- The AI facial recognition is not fully reliable: it mixed up two cats that don't even look alike. cats.com
What independent testers found
Named testers’ published figures, not ours.
| What | Finding | Tester |
|---|---|---|
| Noted | Tested hands-on for over six weeks before publishing the verdict | Katelynn Sobus, cats.com |
| Noted | Overall test score of 3.8 out of 5 | cats.com |
| Noted | Waste chute measures just over 5 inches at its widest point | Katelynn Sobus, cats.com |
| Noted | Replacement refill rings run over $10 per ring, sold in 4-packs | cats.com |
- Positive hands-on experience overall, but facial-recognition mix-ups and a shallow health check-up feature mean it isn't worth the high price tag. Katelynn Sobus, cats.com
