Tap a name for why it won. Figures are the makers’ own.

On November 2, 2026, 2 of the 20 robot vacuums Amazon sold new for $500 or less passed all five of our checks. The cheapest, and our pick for most homes, was the Ecovacs Deebot T50 Max Pro Omni at $450. We compare makers’ figures; we do not test vacuums.

What you get, and give up, at each price

We checked every robot vacuum Amazon sells new for $500 or less for five things: anti-tangle brush, empties itself, clears a 15 mm door strip with room to spare, mop lifts for rugs and says how long the bag lasts. They are the same five checks as our pet hair page, and each comes from the maker’s own page. Under $250, none passes more than 1. At $450, one passes all five.

Why these 2

We do not test vacuums. Each pick follows a rule on the makers’ own figures, and price decides only between vacuums that pass. Where a tester has used one, we say what they found.

Ecovacs Deebot T50 Max Pro Omni

For: Most homes, pets or not

It passes all five checks, and its mop lifts 18 mm, the most of any vacuum under $500. The dock empties the robot (bag lasts up to 90 days) and washes the mop. It climbs 22 mm (maker's number, step type not given). Vacuum Wars tested it: no long hair wrapped its brush in its 7-inch hair test (Vacuum Wars). It is also our pick for pet hair on hardwood.

The catch: its side brush scatters some debris on hard floors (Vacuum Wars). At 3.86 in tall, it needs a little more room under a sofa than the lowest robots.

Roborock Q7 M5+

For: Lowest price, empties itself

It is the lowest-priced vacuum on Amazon with an anti-tangle brush, a self-emptying dock and room to spare over a 15 mm door strip. Roborock says it climbs 20 mm (maker's number, step type not given) and its bag lasts up to 49 days. Bags and filters cost about $85–$130 a year at Amazon prices.

Two testers pick the Roborock Q7 M5. RTINGS calls it “the best budget robot vacuum we’ve tested” (RTINGS), and says it “removes most pet hair in a single pass” (RTINGS). Tom’s Guide names it the best cheap robot vacuum for pet hair (Tom’s Guide). The Q7 M5 they tested has a dock that only charges it (RTINGS). The Q7 M5+ we link comes with a dock that empties it, and Roborock sells the same main brush cover for both (Roborock). We found no tester’s review of the M5+ itself.

The catch: the mop is a pad you clip on (Roborock). It does not lift, and you wash it by hand. It does not steer around cords or toys (RTINGS). Long human hair caught in its brush in Tom’s Guide’s tests (Tom’s Guide).

How each pick was chosen. Most homes, pets or not: passes all five checks and lifts its mop the highest (the pet-hair page's pick for most pet homes). Lowest price, empties itself: the lowest price with an anti-tangle brush, a self-emptying dock and room to spare over a 15 mm door strip.
